Nigerian social media influencer, Abdullah Ayofe, has ignited a storm of reactions after posting a video that showcases an ugly road in the United Kingdom.
The clip, which he shared on X, features Ayofe expressing disbelief at the existence of such an area in a country often perceived as affluent.
“I got to this road, and I had to record it. If I don’t see it myself, I won’t believe it,” Ayofe stated in the video, challenging the polished image typically presented on social media platforms.
The revelation has stirred a variety of responses online, with many users weighing in on the disparity between the UK’s public image and the reality depicted in the video.
One user, Okakaodumodu, remarked, “Your lack of concern about the development of that ghetto speaks volumes about how terrible of a person you are. You are more interested in the ‘media control’,” implying that such areas deserve more attention than they receive.
Conversely, others have taken the opportunity to contrast living conditions in the UK with those in Nigeria.
African unifier pointed out that “their ghetto is more developed and organized than Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja,” while David Eboh criticized the mentality of using negative comparisons to justify local failures, illustrating it with a parable about academic performance.
The conversation continued as Director Lęykií commented on the tendency of Nigerians to criticize their own country at the mention of “abroad,” while Oluwaseun Ajede emphasized that if someone in their thirties is only now discovering a “ghetto area” in the UK, it suggests that such places are not as prevalent as commonly believed.
He highlighted that despite the rough exterior, the UK ghetto still boasts amenities such as 24-hour power, piped water, and waste collection services—luxuries not available in many parts of Nigeria.
