In a series of meticulously coordinated operations that underscore their unwavering commitment to national security, the Nigerian Army’s counter-terrorism units achieved significant victories on Monday, July 29, 2024.
These operations, marked by valor and precision, led to the rescue of kidnapped individuals, the neutralization of a notorious terrorist, the interception of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO), and the seizure of a cache of arms. A notorious Boko Haram fighter also surrendered, further highlighting the successes of the day.
Responding to a distress call along the Obajana Oshokoshoko road in Kogi State, the troops swiftly mobilized to locate and rescue civilians who had been abducted and taken into the forest. Engaging in a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers, the troops successfully rescued the hostages, demonstrating their readiness and capability to respond to such emergencies.
In Benue State, actionable intelligence led the troops to engage terrorists along the Gbeji Afia road. The confrontation resulted in the neutralization of one terrorist and the capture of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorbike. This operation averted a potential attack, ensuring the safety and security of the local community.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops in Imo State intercepted a vehicle transporting 21 sacks of illegally refined diesel (AGO).
The operation also saw the apprehension of armed individuals hired to escort the contraband, striking a blow against illegal economic activities that fund terrorism and other criminal enterprises.
In Borno State, a notorious Boko Haram fighter, Babakarami Balawan, surrendered to the troops in Bama Local Government Area. This surrender followed aggressive military offensives on terrorist hideouts in the region. The surrendered fighter was found with an AK-49 rifle, a magazine, and a bicycle. In the same operation, troops neutralized two additional terrorists and recovered a substantial amount of ammunition and empty magazines.
In a related development, gallant troops rescued a woman and her two children during a search operation in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.
