The Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, warmly welcomed the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members who have been deployed to LAWMA for their one-year national service.
During the meeting, Dr. Gbadegesin provided an insightful overview of LAWMA’s activities and shed light on the key challenges faced in waste management. He emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges, as the waste sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, organic waste alone accounts for 50% of the total waste generated.
In an inspiring message to the corps members, Dr. Gbadegesin urged them to harness their fresh minds and generate innovative ideas and solutions that would greatly benefit the state. He encouraged them to consider conducting research and assured them of the full support they would receive, emphasizing that ambitious and innovative corps members would be duly rewarded for their valuable contributions.
The meeting was attended by several key figures within LAWMA, including the Executive Director, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi; Director Admin/Hr., Ms. Ranti Dosunmu; Director Public Affairs, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri; Head Advocacy, Mr. Adewumi Adetona; Head LAWMA Academy, Mrs. Bola Adewunmi; and Mrs. Hauwa Momoh-Ajibola, along with other members of staff and corps members.
This gathering marks a significant step towards promoting innovation in waste management and fostering a collaborative environment where young minds can contribute to creating sustainable solutions for a cleaner and greener Lagos.
