Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has been elected as the new Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum.
The election took place during a meeting at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, where governors gathered to discuss pressing regional issues and honor the memory of the late Chairman, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, SAN, CON.
In a statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined key resolutions from the meeting, expressing gratitude to the House of Representatives and the South West Caucus for their efforts on the South West Development Commission Bill and urging the Senate to expedite its passage. The governors commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project and other initiatives, while calling for further road rehabilitations by the Federal Government.
They noted the current peace in the South West and advocated for the establishment of State Police, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the Amotekun Corps. The governors expressed support for ongoing discussions on the Minimum Wage, hoping for outcomes that reflect fiscal federalism. The forum endorsed the Federal Government’s efforts on mineral resources and called for increased collaboration with states in granting leases to investors.
Additionally, the governors agreed to enhance the efficiency of the DAWN Commission, focusing on economic integration across the South West. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that these decisions aim to advance the development and prosperity of the South West States, ensuring a collaborative approach to regional challenges and opportunities.
