In a bid to safeguarde public health and maintaining environmental standards, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has taken firm measures against a local fast food establishment.
On Monday, September 16, 2024, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the sealing off of “Cravings & More,” a fast food outlet located along the bustling Egbeda-Idimu road.
According to the commissioner, the action follows public complaints regarding the outlet’s improper waste disposal practices.
“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) today Monday, 16th September, 2024, after a public complaint, sealed off Cravings & More, a fast food outlet along Egbeda-Idimu road for illegal discharge of fats and oil from their kitchen into public drainage system,” Wahab revealed.
The restaurant sanitation practices have raised significant concerns among local residents. The illegal discharge of kitchen waste, primarily fats and oils, into the public drainage system has resulted in severe blockages.
This has subsequently led to the “clogging of the drainage system, causing massive proliferation of maggot and houseflies as well as the emission of foul odour causing discomfort and health hazard to the entire community,” Wahab elaborated.
