At least 35 travellers have tragically lost their lives in a horrific auto accident while en route to Saminaka in the Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State to partake in Eid-el-Maulud celebrations.
The calamity unfolded when a Peugeot J5 bus, packed with passengers, collided head-on with another vehicle, leading to catastrophic consequences. While authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, Mallam Abdullahi, an organizer of the Maulud celebration, shared his heart-wrenching insights with journalists on Monday.
“This accident has disrupted our plans to celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad,” Abdullahi lamented, visibly shaken by the loss. He revealed that approximately 35 injured victims were urgently transported to a medical facility in the neighboring Plateau State for treatment.
In a further twist of tragedy, Abdullahi noted that another vehicle in their convoy had been involved in a collision with a motorbike, resulting in additional fatalities and injuries.
“We had around 70 people, including women and children, in the convoy,” he recounted, emphasizing the scale of the tragedy. “It was a heartbreaking situation. The injured have been taken to JUTH in Jos for medical care.”
The community is now left to grapple with the profound loss and the implications of such a devastating incident during a time meant for joyous celebration.
