Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adegoke Fayoade has urged police personnel attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to consistently exhibit exemplary character and act as good ambassadors of the command.

This call to action came at the conclusion of a three-week training programme organized for 120 RRS personnel at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.

During the training closing ceremony, AIG Fayoade reminded the officers that the primary goal of the training was to enhance their professionalism, problem-solving skills, and the demonstration of good character in their respective duties.

“You can only be agents of change by the way you relate with members of the public and solving problems,” he stated, highlighting the importance of positive engagement with the community.

Fayoade further emphasized that the era of policing through force and aggressive language is over, noting, “The people we are policing are highly enlightened. That is why, as policemen, we must exhibit the best of characters at all times. We must not behave anyhow.”

He urged the personnel to avoid the excessive use of power and to remain conscious of their actions, reminding them that “somebody is watching.”

The AIG also stressed the importance of maintaining integrity in their duties, advising the officers against perverting justice. “You must police with integrity at all times,” he asserted, reinforcing the need for ethical conduct in law enforcement.

The training programme covered essential skills such as protection of crime scenes, crowd control, gun handling, and marksmanship.

Among those present at the event were Commander RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye, and the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, both of whom supported the AIG’s vision for a more community-oriented police force.
