A video that surfaced online on Wednesday captured the suspects in a state of desperation, pleading for mercy from the local residents who had intervened. The footage showed the suspects being stripped naked by the concerned youths who foiled their kidnapping attempt.
Reacting to the viral video, Lagos State Police Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and provided details about the suspects. “Three suspects, Taiwo Olayinka, 30, Azeez Sodiq, 33, and Saheed Moonstruck, 23, have been in our custody since yesterday, shortly after the incident, and efforts are on to arrest the remaining two suspects that escaped. Meanwhile, investigation has commenced,” Hundeyin stated.
He further added, “The three arrested are the suspected thieves or kidnappers (investigation would tell which).”
The quick intervention by the local youths played a crucial role in thwarting the kidnapping attempt. The community’s vigilance and swift action not only prevented the abduction but also ensured the apprehension of the suspects, albeit in a humiliating manner.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar event in July, where the Lagos State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnap attempt, resulting in the death of nine suspects in the Ladipo area of the state. During that operation, the police personnel recovered four AK-47 rifles, showcasing their commitment to combating criminal activities.
The police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities and to apprehend the remaining two individuals who escaped. The swift action by both the community and the police underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation in tackling crime.
