The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the working conditions of security personnel across the country.
In a ceremony held at the Kakuruk Community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, emphasized the government’s dedication to bolstering the morale of security personnel in their efforts to protect lives and property.
Representing the SGF at the event, Simon Tyungu, the Director of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s Office, stated that the renovation of the Mobile Police Barracks is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s ongoing initiatives to enhance the overall well-being of security personnel. The facelift of the barracks aims to provide optimal working conditions for the officers to carry out their duties effectively.
During his address, Senator Akume commended the resilience and commitment of the security forces, particularly the military and the police, in tackling security threats and safeguarding citizens. He expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the renovated barracks and emphasized its significance as a symbol of hope for the Kakuruk community and its surroundings.
The comprehensive renovation of the barracks involved the transformation of dilapidated structures into well-finished facilities. These include a Police Admin block, Commandant’s house, Police Multipurpose Hall, Police Officers’ offices, Armoury, Senior Officers’ quarters, Junior Police Quarters, Quarter Guard, Parade Ground, and the provision of essential facilities such as a transformer, electrification, borehole, water reticulation, security watch towers, drainage, and landscaping.
Senator Akume urged the leaders and senior officers of the barracks to uphold a culture of maintenance and responsibility towards the newly renovated facilities. He emphasized the importance of preserving the infrastructure to ensure its longevity and functionality.
Senator Simon Bako Lalong, who represents Plateau South Senatorial District and is a member of the Senate Committee on Power, lauded the renovation of the Mobile Police Barracks as a game-changer in enhancing the security architecture of not only the Kakuruk community but also the entire Barkin Ladi Local Government and Plateau State. He emphasized that bringing law enforcement agencies closer to the people will significantly contribute to the swift and efficient handling of security threats.
Senator Lalong also highlighted the intermittent security challenges faced by the community and its environs, which have resulted in loss of lives and property. However, he expressed confidence that the renovation of the barracks will restore the community’s trust and enable them to engage in their lawful activities without fear on their ancestral lands.
