The Muslim community at Kwara State University (KWASU) has inaugurated a new executive committee tasked with leading the community to new heights.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the KWASU Temporary Mosque on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, and was attended by the chairman and members of the shurah committee, as well as outgoing executive committee members.
The new executives were selected through a nomination process by members of the Muslim community. Dr. Shehu Usman Adam, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, emerged as the Chairman. Dr. Rahman Mustapha, Mr. Saka Imam, and Dr. Mutiu Akinpelu were appointed as the first, second, and third vice-chairmen, respectively.
Other key positions filled include Dr. Hauwah K. K. AbdulKareem as General Secretary, with Mr. Saheed Suleiman and Mr. Omojasola serving as Assistant General Secretaries 1 and 2. Dr. Kabiru Mustapha was named Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Lateefat Jimoh as Treasurer, and Mr. Ishaq Mohammed as Auditor. Dr. Shuaib Abdulhakeem was appointed Financial Secretary, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu as Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Nimat Idris as Welfare Officer.
Representing non-teaching and teaching staff are Mrs. Mariam Ahmed and Dr. Tajudeen Yusuf, respectively. Barrister Abdurazak Zakariyyah will serve as Legal Officer, while Mrs. Maryam Aladodo and Mrs. Shakirat Aminu were chosen as Chairperson and Secretary of the Women’s Wing.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Dr. Shehu Usman Adam committed to working diligently to fulfill the community’s goals. He emphasized that accountability before God would guide the committee’s actions. He also expressed gratitude to the shurah committee, led by Professor Salih Jummah Alaso, the previous executives, and the entire Muslim community for their support in forming the new executive team. Dr. Adam reassured members of the committee’s dedication to transparency, periodic reporting, and openness to suggestions.
The new executive committee will serve a two-year term, during which they aim to address community concerns and foster a collaborative environment.
