In a bid to foster a healthier and environmentally conscious community, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has joined forces with Smart Gas, a non-governmental organization, to distribute free gas cylinders to its residents.
The initiative, now in its second edition, seeks to discourage the use of firewood and charcoal, known for their adverse effects on health and climate change.
The LCDA Chairman, Hon Rasaq Ajala (HRA), announced the upcoming distribution scheduled for Saturday 2nd, and Sunday 3rd, December 2023.
Two designated locations, 7 Ilupeju Road and St. Martins School in Damingoro, have been earmarked for the event, aiming to reach a wider audience within the LCDA.
This community-driven programme, previously implemented two months ago on Imoru Street, garnered positive responses as residents exchanged cooking gas for waste generated in the area.
Hon Rasaq Ajala emphasized the significance of shifting away from traditional cooking methods, highlighting the detrimental health effects associated with firewood and charcoal usage.
The LCDA chairman urged residents to actively participate in the exercise, emphasizing the importance of embracing cleaner energy alternatives.
The distribution is set to commence at 9:00 am on both days, catering to the convenience of community members.
To ensure the success of the initiative, Community Development Associations and various stakeholders have been tasked with mobilizing residents to the designated distribution points.
