The convoy of Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, was caught in an auto crash while en route from Osogbo on Sunday.
Fortunately, Mr. Egbedun himself was not present in the affected vehicle; however, the accident resulted in injuries to four occupants, all of whom were subsequently hospitalised.
This incident transpired along the Dagbolu stretch of the Osogbo/Ikirun road in Osun State.
The ill-fated vehicle was carrying three State Security Service (DSS) operatives and the driver, heading towards Odo Otin Local Government, which constitutes Egbedun’s constituency.
Their intended destination was a church service, according to a report from The Punch.
Olamide Tiamiyu, the spokesperson for Speaker Adewale Egbedun, confirmed the accident and provided details of the circumstances.
“Three DSS men and a driver were in the vehicle when it happened,” Tiamiyu stated.
“One of the tires experienced a problem, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle.”
The aftermath of the accident resulted in two of the DSS operatives sustaining minor cuts.
They received prompt medical attention at a private hospital in Osogbo. As for the other two individuals who were part of the vehicle’s occupants, they were discharged from medical care the following morning.
It is important to note that Speaker Adewale Egbedun himself was not in the vehicle during the accident, underscoring that it was a minor incident.
This incident highlights the unpredictability of road safety and serves as a reminder of the potential hazards faced by public officials and their security personnel in the course of their duties.
Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure the safety of government officials and the general public in Osun State.
