In a commendable display of vigilance and law enforcement, operatives belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) division of the Lagos Police Command have successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of engaging in acts of vandalism within the vicinity of Tom Jones area on Lagos Island.
This operation culminated in the recovery of a Suzuki mini bus, a pair of carts, and segments of bridge railings.
The coordinated operation, executed with precision, unfolded in the early hours of Saturday at approximately 0245hrs, when vigilant RRS operatives were conducting their routine patrol of the Tom Jones area.
The swift response of these dedicated officers led to the arrest of the three individuals, subsequently identified as Faruk Abubakar, 32 years of age; Yusuph Balogun, 36 years of age; and Timothy Dauda, 49 years of age.
Upon detecting the approaching law enforcement officers, the aforementioned suspects reportedly attempted to evade arrest by hastily fleeing the scene, leaving behind a Suzuki mini bus, colloquially referred to as a “korope,” bearing the registration number BDG 315 YA.
Additionally, the suspects abandoned two carts that were presumably intended for facilitating their illicit activities.
Furthermore, a collection of aluminum railing bars, believed to have been illicitly removed from the Third Mainland Bridge, were left at the scene, alongside a hammer and a hand saw, potentially utilized in their vandalism efforts.
These arrests constitute yet another successful accomplishment for the RRS unit under the capable leadership of CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi.
Recent months have witnessed a consistent series of apprehensions involving vandals, demonstrating the team’s relentless dedication to maintaining the integrity of the city’s infrastructure.
In line with due process, the suspects in question have been arraigned before the appropriate court of law, underscoring the commitment of the Lagos Police Command to uphold justice and curb acts of vandalism that compromise the safety and aesthetics of the city’s public spaces.
