In a tragic incident, Nelson Sylvester, popularly known as Ofunwa, a councilor representing Eha-Ulo ward in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council in Enugu State, was brutally killed by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Eha-Alumonah.
The horrifying event occurred on Sunday July 17, 2023.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the lawmaker’s house, unleashing a hail of bullets upon him.
Nelson Sylvester, severely injured, managed to escape to his neighbour’s house, desperately seeking refuge. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
While specific details surrounding the incident remain scarce, a community source disclosed that “the assailants had invaded the councilor’s home and mercilessly opened fire.”
The source further revealed that “the councilor sought safety in a nearby compound, where his lifeless body was eventually discovered.”
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the distressing incident.
An investigation into this heinous act has been initiated, and DSP Daniel Ndukwe assured the public that “a statement regarding the incident would be released in due course.”
