During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio unveiled the names of several standing committees, which include Appropriations, Public Accounts, Ethics, Public Petitions, and Establishment.
Akpabio disclosed that Senator Solomon Adeola would lead the Appropriations Committee, while Senator Ahmed Wadada was chosen as the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
Also, President Bola Tinubu’s letter requesting confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs was read by the Senate President.
The confirmation process will involve the screening of the service chiefs by the entire senate in the chamber, with the specific date yet to be announced.
Notably, last week, President Tinubu also sought confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs from the House of Representatives. Speaker Abass Tajudeen read the President’s letter during the Thursday plenary session.
On June 19, Tinubu replaced the former service chiefs, including retired Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (National Security Adviser), Lucky Irabor (Chief of Defence Staff), Faruk Yahaya (Chief of Army Staff), Awwal Gambo (Chief of Naval Staff), and Isiaka Amao (Chief of Air Staff).
The new appointments consist of Nuhu Ribadu (National Security Adviser), Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (Chief of Naval Staff), and AVM Hassan Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff).
While assuming their roles in an acting capacity, the newly appointed officials await confirmation by the National Assembly.
