Unknown gunmen in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State have killed a naval rating, identified as OS Harrison, over the weekend.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State police command, confirmed the incident and disclosed that no arrests have been made so far.
This distressing event marks another loss within a year, following the reported killing of a female officer in the same vicinity.
Prior to the incident, the deceased naval officer was stationed at the Lagos Logistics Depot of the Nigerian Navy.
Expressing their concerns, an anonymous resident of Ajegunle told Tribune Online that “Fear still permeates our community. There are rumors that his colleagues are seeking retribution for his death.”
According to reports, the naval officer was ambushed and shot by unidentified individuals while walking in the Olowojeunjeje area of Ajegunle. Some sources have suggested that the assailants may have been affiliated with a cult.
While the police spokesperson acknowledged the commencement of an investigation, no arrests have been made at this time.
