Aminat Yusuf, a brilliant Law scholar, achieved a remarkable milestone as the Best Graduating Student in the 40-year history of Lagos State University (LASU).
With a perfect CGPA of 5.0, she received this honor during the ongoing 26th Convocation Ceremonies of the University.
To celebrate her extraordinary achievement, the traditional ruler of Iba Kingdom, Oba Adeshina Suleiman Okikiola Raji Ashade, the Oniba Ekun of Iba, hosted a special event in her honour on Sunday June 18, 2023.
Oba Adeshina expressed that Aminat’s accomplishment was not only a cause for celebration for his own children but also served as an inspiration to young people in his kingdom, demonstrating that hard work truly pays off.
As a gesture of appreciation and admiration, the Oniba, who is also set to receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree at the University’s Convocation, presented Aminat with a cheque for two million naira.
This unexpected gift left attendees, including Aminat’s parents, momentarily stunned, and their overwhelming joy was evident as tears of happiness flowed.
Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, expressed gratitude to God for making this day a reality and extended her appreciation to the Oniba for his significant contributions to the development of the university, which led to his conferment of the Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Senate.
During the event, Professor Kareem Olatoye, the dean of the Faculty of Law, where Aminat graduated from, praised her as a diligent, consistent, and determined young woman who should serve as a role model for others.
He also thanked the Vice-Chancellor for providing an enabling environment for Aminat and her peers to succeed.
Hon. Tolani Sule, a member of the Governing Council of LASU and a prominent individual from Iba Kingdom, highlighted that the event aimed to celebrate excellence and express gratitude to Aminat for inspiring others.
He acknowledged the University Management for fostering a strong relationship between the kingdom and the university. Additionally, notable guests such as Dr. Kayode Opeifa, former Commissioner for Transport, and Chief (Mrs.) Yeside Fagbohun joined in congratulating Aminat on her exceptional achievement.
The event was attended by the kings of Akesan and Isolo Kingdoms, traditional rulers from neighboring communities, university officials, and members of the Oniba’s immediate and extended families.
Aminat Yusuf will join over ten thousand other individuals who will be awarded diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s degrees during the university’s convocation ceremonies on Wednesday June 21, 2023.
