An Ibadan-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Taofeek Akeugbagold, delivered a compelling message to Muslim parents, particularly women, emphasizing the significance of prioritizing the education of their children.
During the ongoing Nasir Fathi Society (NASFAT) Lagos Zone One 5th Biennial Women’s Conference 2023, which was held on June 2, 2023, Sheikh Akeugbagold highlighted the importance of girl-child education.
The conference, hosted by the Lagos Zone 1, was held at the Owutu Branch of the society.
In his address on the conference theme, Sheikh Akeugbagold emphasized the Islamic value placed on women and highlighted the transformative impact of Islam in ending historical injustices and mistreatment endured by women.
“Prior to the advent of Islam, women were subjected to maltreatment, slavery, and various forms of dehumanization, ” said Akeugbagold.
He praised Prophet Muhammad (SAW) for championing equality and advocating for women’s rights and education.
“The Prophet urged all Muslim men to treat their wives with kindness and promoted the freedom and education of women,” Sheikh Akeugbagold emphasized, stressing that seeking knowledge, as encouraged by the Prophet, is crucial for leading a virtuous life.
He denounced any attempt to marginalize women in society, citing the Prophet’s legislation protecting women during times of conflict. According to Sheikh Akeugbagold, the Prophet explicitly prohibited the killing of women during warfare.
Sheikh Akeugbagold also highlighted that education extends beyond the confines of traditional classrooms. He asserted that only educated wives can effectively raise children who will contribute meaningfully to society in the future.
Noting the trend of Muslim children embracing Christianity due to a lack of quality education, he urged the conference attendees to prioritize their children’s education.
During the event, the Ojota Branch Chairman, Imam AbdulAkeem Alaran, commended the conference organizers for wisely selecting a theme that addresses a pressing challenge among Muslims.
He emphasized the annual gathering’s goal of fostering unity among “women of Aljanna” and highlighted the conference’s focus on education.
Also speaking at the event, spokesperson for the Nasir Fathi Society (Owutu Branch), Imam Saheed Oladele, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host the conference and emphasized its purpose of inspiring Muslim women to seek knowledge and prioritize their children’s education.
He stressed that the education provided by mothers holds greater significance than formal classroom education.
The event was attended by notable individuals from various backgrounds.
