Election in Lagos: Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA records peaceful electoral conduct
As Nigerians troop out today to make history, they are exercising their electoral rights and choosing the next leaders who will control the affairs of the nation.
Nigerians are choosing the next president, legislators and lawmakers representing different constituencies across the nation.
At Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, as early as 8:30 am, electoral officers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived at their various polling units in preparation for the election.
Accreditation and voting began in earnest. The ongoing election started well and it is hoped that it ends well as expected.
Unlike the unverified reports of violence and disruption from some polling units in Lagos State, the electoral conduct in Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, is exceptional.
Kudos to the youth and residents of this LCDA. All the polling units visited by The Naija News record orderliness.
The voters are well-organized and coordinated.
The mobilisation at Ward B1 in the LCDA was encouraging. The LCDA Supervisor for Special Duty, Hon Onisemo Fuad Ishola, who spoke to The Naija News stated that the conduct of the election has been smooth.
The supervisor who moved from house to house to mobilize residents to vote also applauded the LCDA chairman.
Hon Ishola stated, “The ugly narrative about Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA has changed. It is a peaceful election in all polling units in Ward B1.”
He added, “The leadership of this LCDA have really done well through a sensitization and orientation programme.”
Also speaking to The Naija News, one of the residents in Ward A2 said, “We will continue to shock them. They had thought the election in this LCDA will be marked by violence.”
“We appreciate our LCDA Chairman Hon Rasaq Ajala, who had sensitized us to the electoral processes. He has done well,” he added.
Another resident, who preferred anonymity commended the residents for their peaceful conduct.
“This year’s is different. It is peaceful. You can see everyone exercising their electoral rights. No vote buying, no rigging and no election by proxy,” she said.
With the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), a free and fair election is guaranteed.
BVAS is a technological device introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2021 to promote credible elections and prevent rigging.
The BVAS helps to scan the barcode or QR code on the PVC or voter’s register before voting.
Voters are registered on the BVAS. Before casting a vote, every eligibility is verified by the INEC official. After that, they are captured and accredited to vote.
With this device, voting by proxy is prevented. A voter must be physically present to cast their vote.
