In a spirited effort to combat tuberculosis (TB) and promote community health, Mrs. Muibat Ajala, wife of the chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), joined forces with the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, to spearhead a transformative TB Awareness and Eradication Campaign on Monday December 23, 2024.
The initiative, held at the heart of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, drew hundreds of residents who participated in free tuberculosis screenings, chest X-rays, educational health talks, HIV screenings, and checks for blood pressure and sugar levels.
The event also featured engaging fitness activities aimed at promoting a holistic approach to health and well-being.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ajala expressed her gratitude and emphasized its importance.
“Tuberculosis is a preventable and treatable disease, yet it continues to impact lives across communities. This initiative, driven by the First Lady’s unwavering commitment to public health, served as a beacon of hope, emphasizing that early detection can save lives,” she said.
She also acknowledged the collaborative effort that made the event successful, stating, “My heartfelt gratitude goes to Her Excellency for her leadership, as well as to our tireless health workers, volunteers, and the incredible team from the Stop TB Partnership Lagos who worked hard to ensure the campaign’s success.”
The First Lady of Lagos State, renowned for her dedication to improving public health, also lauded the event as a step forward in the fight against TB, which remains a significant public health challenge. The campaign highlighted the necessity of early detection and community education in curbing the spread of the disease.
Residents praised the initiative for providing much-needed health services and raising awareness about TB and other health issues.
Ajala also encouraged everyone to join the movement, saying, “Together, we are making strides toward a healthier Lagos. Let’s continue to spread awareness and ensure better health for all.”
