In a decisive move to dismantle the dangerous Lakurawas sect operating in Sokoto and Kebbi States, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has deployed a highly trained Special Operations Brigade to the region. This strategic deployment seeks to build on the victories recorded during the recent precursor phase under Operation FOREST SANITY III (CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT).
On December 13, 2024, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, addressed the newly deployed troops on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele. He issued a stern directive to the brigade: “Ensure the complete neutralization of the Lakurawas sect.”
Brigadier General Ajose underscored the importance of discipline and precision in the mission, stating, “Adhere strictly to the rules of engagement and prioritize the protection of the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.” He praised the troops for their elite training and readiness, adding, “Nigerians are counting on your professionalism and resolve to eliminate the sect.”
This latest deployment follows a series of successful operations by 8 Division troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which targeted Lakurawas strongholds in areas including Rumji Dutse, East of Sarma, Tsauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, and Magara Forest. These precursor operations led to the destruction of 22 camps, the neutralization of numerous sect members, and the recovery of four rifles, 409 rounds of PKT 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 94 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
With this Special Operations Brigade now on the ground, the military aims to further cripple the sect’s activities, boost regional security, and restore peace to affected communities across Sokoto, Kebbi, and the wider North West.
The battle to “CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT” continues, with the military’s resolve stronger than ever.
