Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA main hall came alive today with the presentation of Bursary Awards and Financial Support for the Annual Inter-House Sports Competitions, benefiting students from public primary and secondary schools within the LCDA.
The event was a heartening celebration of education and youth development, bringing together students, teachers, parents, and local stakeholders.
In his remarks, Hon Rasaq Ajala (HRA), the LCDA Chairman, highlighted the programme dual purpose: supporting the educational needs of students while promoting extracurricular activities.
He emphasized that local government is closest to the people, and thus has a responsibility to meet their needs. The program, aimed at alleviating the financial burdens on parents, reflects this commitment.
“The fundamental objective of local government is to serve the grassroots. Today, we are addressing one of the most pressing needs—education,” said Hon. Ajala, while acknowledging the economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to improve the nation’s financial situation, which has allowed for the funding of these initiatives.
The LCDA Chairman also underscored the importance of education. He added, “Education is a priority for us here in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye. We are committed to supporting students not just at the primary level but also at secondary and tertiary institutions, even though they may not directly fall under our jurisdiction.”
The event also served as a platform for Hon. Ajala to encourage students to tap into the Federal Government’s Student Loan Program, designed to ease the financial burden of higher education.
“This loan is modeled after systems in advanced countries, and it’s a great opportunity for students to pursue their dreams without the immediate worry of repayment,” he advised.
The highlight of the day was the presentation of N50,000 to students and teachers involved in the Inter-House Sports. This funding is intended to encourage and support youth talent development, ensuring students can channel their energy into positive activities.
Attendees included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Seyi Jakande, the Leader of the Legislative Arm Hon. Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja, and various other local leaders, including Council Manager Mrs. Afolake Otenaike and Council Treasurer Mr. Rufai Mujitaba Karohunwi.
The event was also attended by key figures from the All Progressive Congress, local religious leaders, and community organizations.
With this initiative, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA continues to show its dedication to fostering educational growth and community development, while also empowering students to explore opportunities for their futures.
