The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos has issued a formal invitation to Olakunle Fashugba of Yoruba Gidi TV to assist in an investigation involving allegations of conspiracy, cyberbullying, serious threats to life, forgery, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The letter, dated November 26, 2024, was signed by ACP Elvis Ennaieoku on behalf of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), FCID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos. The invitation requested Fashugba to appear at the FCID Annex on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. to meet with the Officer in Charge (O/C) of Team H, X-Squad Section, for clarification related to the ongoing investigation.
“This is a fact-finding exercise pursuant to the investigative power conferred on the Nigeria Police Force by the combined provisions of Section 214 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) and Section 4(a) of the Police Act 2020,” the letter stated.
The FCID emphasized the importance of Fashugba’s presence in advancing the course of criminal justice delivery and ensuring fairness. “Your presence is therefore requested towards advancing the course of criminal justice delivery and fairness. Please be advised that you are at liberty to come along with your lawyer,” it noted.
The case underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to addressing cyber-related crimes and maintaining peace in the digital and physical realms. While the investigation remains in its early stages, the FCID assured all parties of a fair and transparent process.
