The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reiterated its commitment to ending gender-based violence (GBV) as it joins the global observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
This annual campaign seeks to raise awareness and inspire action to combat all forms of violence against women and girls.
As part of its proactive measures, the NPF has implemented a comprehensive Police Gender Policy and appointed a dedicated Gender Advisor to ensure gender inclusivity and foster a safer society for all.
This initiative underscores the Force’s unwavering dedication to addressing GBV, sexual violence, harassment, and related crimes.
“The Nigeria Police Force has a longstanding commitment to combating gender-based violence and supporting victims,” said ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
“Through the creation of specialized units such as the Juvenile, Women & Child (JWC) unit, the Anti-Human Trafficking unit, and the Anti-Child Labour unit, we are ensuring a structured and sensitive response to these issues.”
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) recently convened a workshop with the heads of all investigation units to emphasize child-friendly policing practices. These practices are designed to be non-traumatic and respectful of the rights of children and young people while fostering a protective and inclusive policing environment.
In another milestone, the IGP officially decorated newly promoted Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Ari Muhammed, appointing him as the Coordinating DIG for the North Central region. DIG Ari brings a wealth of experience and exemplary leadership to the role, having served in critical capacities such as DC Operations at the Lagos State Police Command, CP Delta State Command, AIG Zone 2 in Lagos, and most recently, AIG Zone 1, Kano.
DIG Ari’s promotion and the launch of the Police Gender Policy highlight the NPF’s resolve to enhance its policing framework while addressing gender-related issues.
“The Force remains resolute in its mission to eliminate gender-based violence and foster a community where every individual feels safe and respected,” ACP Adejobi affirmed.
The NPF encourages citizens to speak out against violence, seek help, and report incidents. The IGP reiterated his dedication to strengthening law enforcement and ensuring effective policing nationwide.
