The Lagos State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), under the leadership of Engr. Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan, has taken a significant step toward youth-centered healthcare by partnering with the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
Together, they launched two Youth-Friendly Clinics at Ayo Ni Primary Health Centre in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) and Olusosun Primary Health Centre in Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
This launch event, which underscored Lagos State’s commitment to accessible healthcare for all, saw the presence of key health ministry officials led by Dr. Abimbola Mabogunje, the Permanent Secretary for Lagos State Health District VI, and Mrs. Badmus-Aregbe, Vice Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo LGA.
The Youth-Friendly Clinics aim to be safe and supportive spaces where young people can access essential healthcare services. These clinics are designed with youth in mind, providing both medical assistance and comfortable, youth-focused relaxation areas. The facilities will be managed jointly by Primary Health Centre (PHC) officials and NYCN representatives across the state, ensuring services are tailored to the unique needs of young people.
Engr. Adigun, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Special Duties, Tijani Lukman, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, the Society for Family Health, and the Ministry of Health for their commitment to the wellbeing of Lagos youth. “I am confident that Lagos youths will fully engage with the clinics and make the most of these valuable health services,” Engr. Adigun shared.
Dr. Ibrahim Olanrewaju AbdulRazaq, Director of Health at NYCN Lagos State, who played a pivotal role in coordinating this collaboration, attended the event along with other members of the directorate. The occasion also saw the presence of local NYCN coordinators, Comrade Ewetade Monsur from Oshodi-Isolo LGA and Comrade Bankole Hakeem from Onigbongbo LCDA, both of whom are enthusiastic about the project’s impact on their communities.
This collaborative initiative aligns with the Lagos State Ministry of Health’s “Health for All” mission, fostering a proactive approach to healthcare for young people. With this launch, Lagos State is setting a precedent in youth-friendly healthcare, encouraging the active participation of its youth in their own health and wellness journey.
