Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has landed in hot water after being arrested by the Benin Republic Immigration Service at the bustling Seme border during routine passport checks.
An immigration source at the Nigerian-Benin Republic border confirmed the startling news to PREMIUM TIMES, stating, “Bobrisky has been returned to Lagos right now.”
The source further elaborated, “He was arrested at midnight and detained until this morning, and he’s currently being moved to the Lagos zone of the NIS in Ikeja.”
Reports suggest that the embattled crossdresser was attempting to leave Nigeria discreetly when authorities apprehended him. “He gave his passport to someone to stamp it for him, so the officer saw the name immediately among others and requested that he should come down from the vehicle,” an insider revealed.
Attempts to reach Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), for further comments were unsuccessful, as phone calls and text messages went unanswered on Monday.
The exact circumstances surrounding Bobrisky’s arrest remain shrouded in mystery. Currently, he is embroiled in an ongoing investigation led by a Committee of the House of Representatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service concerning serious allegations of bribery.
In a twist of fate, social media influencer Martins Ortse, known as VeryDarkMan, leaked an audio recording in which Bobrisky purportedly claimed to have paid EFCC officials a staggering N15 million to have money laundering charges against him dismissed. Bobrisky has vehemently denied that the voice in the recording belongs to him.
Adding to the intrigue, the controversial figure also asserted that he did not serve the full six-month jail term for a previous conviction involving naira abuse in Kirikiri prison, attributing his early release to the influence of a powerful godfather.
Following these revelations, both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan were summoned by the House of Representatives for questioning; however, Bobrisky notably failed to appear.
