Successive decisive operations of the Nigerian soldiers have eliminated another eight notorious terrorist fighters and freed 16 kidnapped hostages, marking a significant victory in the ongoing battle against insurgency.
On Monday, the Nigerian Army shared updates via their official X account, confirming the recovery of a significant cache of weapons. The operations, which took place on September 22, saw the army foil a terrorist attack in Borno, where three insurgents were killed while attempting to raid villages for supplies.
The army disclosed that troops retrieved one light machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades, five AK-47 magazines, 200 linked rounds of machine gun ammunition, and other items including money and mobile phones.
In a separate incident, based on reliable intelligence, soldiers ambushed terrorists in Gwoza, Borno. Despite harsh weather conditions, the troops pursued the insurgents and killed one, forcing the others to abandon 16 hostages. The rescued group included 10 men and six women. A search of the area led to the discovery of two grenades, a bag of fish, and other items.
In another operation in Yobe, troops acting on intelligence staged a successful ambush, killing four terrorists in the Madza and Azare villages of Gujba Local Government Area. Two AK-47 rifles and other materials were recovered.
Further south, soldiers stationed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) collaborated with other security agencies to conduct stop-and-search operations in Kugbo, Abuja. This led to the arrest of a suspect carrying 178 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition hidden in a bag of flour, along with a mobile phone and ₦29,000.
The army reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism, urging the public to continue providing valuable information to aid security efforts.
