The Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested two political thugs in Edo State, marking a significant step in the fight against electoral violence.
The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, both members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), were apprehended during overnight raids aimed at preventing potential chaos during the upcoming elections.
Following a tip-off regarding armed individuals plotting to incite mayhem on the eve of the election, police operatives swiftly took action.
Obanor, recognized as a leader of an armed group, was captured at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 PM, while Tajudeen was detained in Igara Akoko, Edo. .
During the search of their belongings, police recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols from Obanor and one locally made gun from Tajudeen.
The arrests underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
A spokesperson for the police stated, “The police and other supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State.”
Currently in custody, the suspects are set to face serious legal consequences for their actions. The police have reiterated their dedication to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the published help lines.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, emphasized the importance of community cooperation in ensuring a safe electoral environment, stating, “We are committed to protecting lives and property.”
