In a passionate and provocative Facebook post, Dr Oladoyin Odebowale, a distinguished lecturer in Classics at the University of Ibadan, has ignited a firestorm of controversy by openly criticizing the current Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji.
His post, which has since gone viral, contains strong accusations and harsh language directed at the Ataoja.
“The current occupier of the Palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo is a traitor. He is an illiterate, like his principal in the Government House,” Odebowale wrote, in a statement that has raised eyebrows and sparked intense discussions both online and offline.
He added, “We will attend to him and his handlers in due course.”
This cryptic yet ominous remark has left many wondering about the potential implications and actions that may follow.
The lecturer’s post continued with a pointed message to the Yoruba people, stating, “Any Yoruba person who extends the courtesies of an Oba to him is not wise.”
This assertion challenges the traditional respect and reverence typically afforded to Obas within the Yoruba culture.
At the heart of Dr. Odebowale’s critique is the Osun Osogbo Festival, a significant cultural event for the Yoruba people.
He emphasized, “The Yoruba people, especially those living in Osogbo, are the custodians of the Osun Osogbo Festival, not an illiterate Muslim who masquerades as Ataoja.”
