The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has reaffirmed its commitment to spearheading Nigeria’s drive towards alternative energy solutions.
The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of ECN, Dr. Abdullahi, expressed his readiness to address Nigeria’s power deficiency during a courtesy visit by a team from the United Kingdom at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, Dr. Abdullahi engaged with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), discussing various pressing issues in the energy sector. He highlighted the role and evolution of the Energy Commission, as well as the strategies employed by the new leadership to achieve their vision and targets. Dr. Abdullahi emphasized the importance of integrating research outcomes from various centers across the country into the national energy framework.
One of the key topics discussed was “Energy Sector Reforms in Nigeria: Opportunities and Challenges.”
Dr. Abdullahi outlined his strategic plans and initiatives aimed at providing leadership in the energy sector. He also emphasized the Commission’s commitment to international collaborations and partnerships to advance Nigeria’s energy pursuits and promote advocacy on climate change.
Additionally, Dr. Abdullahi reiterated his determination to drive the national energy policy, as recently unveiled by The Presidency. The policy includes the National Energy Policy (NEP) and the National Energy Master Plan (NEMP). He emphasized the importance of capacity building, human capital development, and gender inclusivity in achieving these goals.
The Energy Commission of Nigeria continues to take significant steps towards revolutionizing Nigeria’s alternative power sector. With a focus on innovation, international partnerships, and sustainable development, ECN aims to address the country’s energy challenges and pave the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.
