The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced a nationwide indefinite strike starting Monday June 3, 2024, over the federal government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage from N60,000.
Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, made the declaration during a press conference at Labour House in Abuja on Friday.
He emphasized the unions’ dissatisfaction with the government’s stance, stating that the strike would commence at midnight on Sunday, June 2.
The call for a higher minimum wage comes amid rising living costs and economic pressures on Nigerian workers. The unions argue that the current proposal is insufficient to meet the basic needs of workers and their families.
