In a significant move towards enhancing financial transparency and accountability within Lagos State, the Public Accounts Committee of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) has initiated a comprehensive audit of all 20 local government areas (LGAs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.
Led by Hon. Prince Nureni Akinsanya, the chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts (Local), the audit process was officially launched on Tuesday with a clear objective to scrutinize the financial records of these local government entities.
Akinsanya, who represents Mushin Constituency 1, emphasised the critical importance of ensuring responsible fund management and maintaining high standards of governance across the local administrations.
The inaugural phase of the audit focused on examining the financial accounts of five specific councils:
- Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA)
- Ikosi-Isheri LCDA
- Agboyi-Ketu LCDA
- Somolu Local Government
- Kosofe Local Government
This initial step marks the beginning of a systematic and thorough review that will encompass all 57 LGs/LCDAs within Lagos State. The audit is expected to shed light on expenditure patterns, revenue sources, budget adherence, and overall financial performance of these local government bodies.
