Police operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station in Anambra State have arrested a 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, for allegedly murdering his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji, and attempting to take his own life.
The tragic event occurred on Thursday, April 11, 2025, at about 1:40 p.m. in Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police responded swiftly to reports of the incident and arrested the suspect at the crime scene. They also recovered an axe, suspected to have been used in the gruesome act.
“Preliminary information reveals that the squabble started when the suspect accused the deceased of being dishonest about the money realised from a cassava business,” SP Ikenga disclosed.
He confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody and is under close monitoring to prevent another suicide attempt.
“The suspect is in custody and under close monitoring so as not to commit suicide and would be charged to court after the investigation,” he stated.
