Popular Nollywood actress, Lizzy Anjorin, has publicly called out renowned gospel singer, Tope Alabi, following a dramatic fallout at a surprise birthday celebration organized in Lizzy’s honour.
Anjorin, who recently marked her birthday, had no idea her fan club and husband had arranged for Tope Alabi to perform at the event, knowing how much the actress admired the singer. The surprise was planned to take place at Lizzy’s clothing store in Lagos.
However, the event took an unexpected turn when Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji Alabi, reportedly arrived at the venue only to refuse to perform after realizing it was a birthday celebration.
The couple’s refusal sparked speculation online, with fans debating the reasons behind the gospel singer’s decision.
In response, Lizzy Anjorin took to Instagram to clarify that she does not celebrate birthdays and even blamed her fans for spending lavishly on the failed surprise instead of supporting her business.
“I don’t celebrate birthdays, only a wicked person would claim I do. I’m not in a position to judge their reaction, but if I had invited them myself, I wouldn’t have paid them anything,” she stated.
The controversy didn’t end there. In a follow-up video, the actress criticized Tope Alabi directly, challenging her spiritual authority and questioning her societal contributions.
“I am holier than you, Aunty mi Tope. If we are to ask what is your impact in society? I have impacted lives more than you. I have empowered more people in the society. If you say you’ve empowered people, they’re people who fed off you, not the general public. I have done more good and added more value to the society than you. I am pure. If you judge me, I thank God He doesn’t judge me,” Lizzy declared passionately.
