In the wake of the tragic incident at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, during a children’s fun fair organized by the WINGS Foundation, Agidigbo FM 88.7 has issued an official statement clarifying its role and extending heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.
The incident, which took place on December 18, 2024, left the community in shock. Responding to reports that Agidigbo FM was the event’s organizer, the station’s management firmly denied these claims.
“Agidigbo FM is not the organizer of the event but one of the media outfits used to promote the event,” the statement clarified.
Upon learning that a large crowd had gathered at the venue as early as 5 a.m., Agidigbo FM took immediate steps to mitigate the situation. “Agidigbo FM, the people’s voice, used all media strategies to sensitize the populace with jingles and Public Service Announcements, from that time, that people should stop going to the venue of the funfair,” the management explained.
The organizers of the event, WINGS Foundation, reportedly deployed security personnel, medical teams, and other emergency services to manage the crisis and assist those affected.
Describing it as a “very sad day for us all,” Agidigbo FM called on the public to avoid spreading misinformation. “We implore the general public to continue to pray for the speedy recovery of those in various hospitals and sympathize with the family of those who lost their lives,” said Olayinka AbdulWahab, Director of Programmes.
The station urged anyone seeking accurate information to contact Agidigbo FM directly and emphasized the importance of unity and support during this difficult time.
The statement concluded with a message of hope: “Thank you for your constant support. We pray to never experience any tragic experience.”
