The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Lagos State Chapter, led by Engr. Ibrahim Adigun, has successfully concluded the Y2024 Annual Congress, a three-day event held at the Lagos Palm Beach Resort, Debojo, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, from Friday, December 13th to Sunday, December 15th.
The congress, where administrative reports of the executive since their emergence in June was presented, brought together a diverse group of youth leaders, stakeholders, and dignitaries committed to empowering the youth of Lagos.
This year’s event was themed “Harnessing the Power of Youth: Building a Resilient Lagos Through Visionary Leadership and Collective Action”.
Reflecting on the collaborative success of the event, Engr. Adigun expressed his profound appreciation for all those who contributed to making the congress a reality.
“To the glory of Almighty God and the betterment of all youths in Lagos, we successfully concluded the three-day annual congress,” he said. He also highlighted the instrumental role of the NYCN Lagos management team, delegates from local branches, and various youth organizations (VYOs) in ensuring the event’s success.
The congress featured impactful speeches and presentations on the theme from Comrade Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, National President of NYCN, and Hon. Alabi Opeyemi, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Youth Mobilization. Other notable speakers included Pharm. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, represented by Mr. Julius Olukosi, Amb. Amosu Kazeem, Vice President Southwest of NYCN, and Comrade Olugbode Damola, Southwest Organizing Secretary.
The event was also attended by Hon. Gbenga Abiola, Vice Chairman of Agege LGA; Dr. Seriki Muritala, APC Lagos Youth Leader; and several key youth leaders including Comrade Bayode Belinda, Amb. Olayinka Oreshile, Comrade Saliu Adekunle Africa, and Comrade Rasheedat, among others from across the youth constituency.
In his address, Engr. Adigun extended special thanks to the leaderships of the 57 local branches, VYOs, and Directorates whose financial and hands-on involvement were crucial to the success of the inaugural congress.
“Let me sincerely appreciate the SSA to Governor Sanwo-olu on Social Development Comr. Biliaminu Oba, SSA to Governor Sanwo-olu on Special Duties Comrade Tobi Oladepo, for their efforts towards the success of the event,” Adigun said.
He also expressed deep gratitude for the support of the event’s sponsors and partners, whose contributions were integral to its successful execution.
“Your contributions have been instrumental in making this event a success,” he said, also acknowledging his executive team for their unwavering commitment.
“To my Executives, I appreciate your hard work and dedication to our mission. You guys are the best!”
Concluding with a powerful promise to the youth of Lagos, Engr. Adigun reaffirmed their commitment to continue advocating for and representing youth interests. “We promise to continue representing you with dignity and elegance,” he assured.
The event resounding message, “Build the Youth! Build the Nation!”, echoed the spirit of unity and collective action, reinforcing the importance of empowering the youth for a brighter, more resilient Lagos.
