Landmark College, Ikorodu echoed with festive cheer and solemn reflection today as the college hosted its annual Christmas Carol, a joyful gathering marked by music, scripture, and heartfelt messages of hope and gratitude.
The event opened with the arrival of guests and a soul-stirring organ recital, followed by the processional hymn, “Joyful, Joyful.”One of the teachers, Mr Oladele S.O, led the opening prayer, and after the national and school anthems, dignitaries at the high table were introduced.
The school choir’s melodious performance set a reverent tone before Principal Mr. J.A. Sanni’s welcome address highlighted the significance of unity and faith during the season.
Various scriptural readings by students, staff and the college CEO, Mr Isiaka Oyebamiji, recounted the biblical narrative of Christ’s birth, underscored by hymns like “Angels from the Realms of Glory” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
Delivering the 5th Lesson from Isaiah 9:6-9, the Chairman/CEO recited: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.”
Following the reading, he addressed the congregation, saying: “As we reflect on this powerful passage, let us remember that Christmas signifies the gift of hope, peace, and divine love. This season is a reminder that in every challenge, we have a ‘Wonderful Counsellor’ and a ‘Prince of Peace’ guiding us.
“At Landmark College, let us continue to nurture these values in our hearts, our school, and our community. May we all carry this message of love, service, and gratitude into the new year ahead.”
He concluded by encouraging students and staff to embody the spirit of generosity: “In giving, we demonstrate the true essence of Christmas. Let us be kind, let us be generous, and let us be a beacon of hope to those around us.”In a powerful goodwill message, Pastor Ayuba Joseph emphasized that Christmas is far more than festivities and feasting, describing it as “a season of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance.”
He called on students and guests to remember God’s love, saying, “It is a time to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and show gratitude for His eternal gift of hope and peace.”
The pastor encouraged the congregation to express gratitude with joy and embrace the season’s true purpose — celebrating God’s unwavering love for humanity.
The ceremony concluded with the choir and congregation singing “Joy to the World,” followed by a benediction from Pastor Joseph and the recessional hymn “The Holly and the Ivy.”
