The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun a full-scale investigation into a suspected oil thief, along with a barge and two trucks seized by the Nigerian Navy’s NNS Delta. The handover took place in Warri on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
Lt. Cdr. E.O. Adeola, representing the Commander of NNS Delta during the handover ceremony, detailed the operation that led to the arrest.
He revealed that the vessel, Barge Oghenekome, and two trucks were intercepted at the NIWA jetty while discharging products believed to be crude oil. The suspect, identified as Samson Uki, was caught during the process. “Preliminary investigation showed they were operating without a requisite licence,” Adeola stated.
The seized products remain of unspecified quantity pending further verification.
Speaking on behalf of the EFCC, Assistant Superintendent Usman Abdullahi Nuhu assured that the Commission would leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice. “The Commission will carry out further investigation and possible prosecution of the case,” he affirmed.
