Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested Ifeanyi Okonkwo, who was caught on CCTV stealing a Samsung A15 smartphone at a popular eatery on Kafi Street, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
The incident occurred on November 7, 2024, when Okonkwo entered the restaurant under the guise of buying food. Instead, he seized the opportunity to swipe a fellow customer’s Samsung A15 left on the counter. Unknown to him, the entire act was recorded by the eatery surveillance cameras.

Apparently unaware that his face was now known to staff and authorities, Okonkwo made a bold but ill-advised return to the same eatery on December 5, 2024. This time, vigilant staff recognized him immediately and notified RRS operatives, who swiftly arrested him near the scene.
The police recovered the stolen Samsung A15 from the buyer, and Okonkwo has since been charged to court for the theft.
The Lagos State Police Command has continued to emphasize the importance of surveillance technology in curbing crime. This incident highlights how vigilance, combined with CCTV, can make the difference in bringing culprits to justice.
