In a decisive effort to curb banditry in Taraba and Benue States, troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, executed a successful operation that dealt a significant blow to criminal elements. The mission, aptly named “Operation Golden Peace,” is part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
On December 7, 2024, the troops carried out a meticulously coordinated clearance operation targeting bandit hideouts in the Akahagu and China villages of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State. The sweep extended to Ikayor village, where the troops confronted bandits linked to the infamous criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as “Full Fire.”
The overwhelming firepower of the troops forced the bandits to flee, leaving behind crucial evidence of their activities. Recovered items included a red Toyota Corolla, a motorcycle, a military camouflage trouser, and a Beretta pistol.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their bravery and commitment, stating, “This operation demonstrates our resolve to eradicate banditry and ensure the safety of all residents. The military remains committed to maintaining peace and security in Taraba and Benue States.
The success of “Operation Golden Peace” highlights the Nigerian Army’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks and restoring normalcy in communities long plagued by insecurity. Residents of the region can look forward to a more peaceful environment as security forces continue to intensify their operations against banditry.
