AIG Augustina N. Ogbodo, PSC, has officially taken the helm as the 53rd Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos.
This milestone appointment marks her as the first female officer to assume this prestigious role, succeeding AIG Ogundele J. Ayodeji, whose tenure saw remarkable achievements.
A native of Enugu South Local Government Area, Enugu State, AIG Ogbodo is a distinguished officer with a stellar record. Reflecting on her historic career, she previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, where she was celebrated for her outstanding performance. Before this latest promotion, she led the Maritime Police Command at Force Headquarters Annex, Obalende. Her tenure in maritime policing was defined by an unyielding stance against corruption, harassment, and misconduct, ensuring high ethical standards within the maritime sector.
AIG Ogbodo holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Diploma in Police Science from the Staff College, Jos. Her extensive experience is bolstered by numerous professional development courses and roles across various police commands and formations nationwide.
As she steps into her new role, AIG Ogbodo called on Nigerians for collective action against crime and injustice, stating:
“I encourage all well-meaning citizens to collaborate with the Police in the fight against crime and the promotion of justice.”
Her leadership vision focuses on strengthening operational effectiveness at the FCID, boosting public safety, and upholding the integrity of the Police Force. She emphasized her commitment to professionalism, integrity, and transparency in policing and promised an open-door policy to foster cooperation with sister agencies.
