In a gesture of goodwill this festive season, Aero Contractors, Nigeria’s oldest aviation company, has announced a significant reduction in local flight fares, slashing prices to N80,000 across all routes.
This initiative, aimed at easing the burden on travelers during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, comes as a reprieve for Nigerians grappling with high travel costs.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the Managing Director of Aero Contractors, Ado Sanusi, described the price reduction as a “pocket-friendly Christmas initiative” and a way of giving back to customers. He explained that the offer, which is valid until January 2025, was inspired by the challenging economic conditions facing the nation.
“We have understood the pains Nigerians have been going through because of the economic hardship, the high prices of tickets, and the holiday season is nearby,” Sanusi said.
“So, Aero Contractors has decided to announce a Christmas initiative, we call them, pocket-friendly Christmas prices. These prices are designed to allow Nigerians to travel to all our destinations without paying too much.”
Sanusi emphasized that the price reduction aligns with the spirit of Christmas and Aero Contractors’ long-standing tradition of understanding and supporting its customers.
“And this is in the spirit of giving, which is the spirit of Christmas. We believe that as a company, this is just a very old history of understanding its customers. We believe it’s time for us to give back to our customers,” he added.
Currently, local flight fares in Nigeria range between N100,000 (Economy Class) and N200,000 (Business Class), depending on the time of booking and seat availability. The new initiative offers a significant discount, making air travel more accessible for families and individuals planning to reunite with loved ones during the holidays.
Sanusi assured the public that the company’s operations would remain profitable despite the price cut. “Our prices will start from 80,000 to all of our destinations, and we intend to make it affordable to the flying public. This is to allow the flying public and families to meet their loved ones during this Christmas season,” he said.
With a fleet of three aircraft, Aero Contractors is confident in its ability to meet holiday travel demands. Sanusi also urged other airlines to consider similar initiatives to support Nigerians during the festive period, saying, “It’s time for other airlines to also give back to the customers.”
The move has been widely praised as a thoughtful response to the economic realities facing the nation, offering a glimmer of hope and relief to thousands of travelers this yuletide season.
