The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted claims linking its officers to a viral video showing uniformed personnel scooping fuel from the wreckage of a tanker accident. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the individuals in the video are not Nigerian police officers but personnel from a neighboring Francophone country whose camouflage uniforms resemble those of the NPF.
“The captured officers were speaking in French languages, not a Nigerian language or English,” Adejobi clarified in a statement released today.
He condemned the video’s release as a deliberate attempt to discredit the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing that such misinformation undermines the integrity of the force and negatively impacts national unity.
The NPF stressed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and the safety of all Nigerians under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). “We strongly condemn the spread of such disinformation and unverified news aimed at tarnishing or discrediting the image of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi said.
He urged Nigerians to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it, adding that the force remains dedicated to upholding its reputation and ensuring public safety.
