A native doctor from Kuchibuyi Village, Kubwa, identified as Ismail Usman, found himself in critical condition after a misguided experiment involving a self-proclaimed ‘bulletproof’ charm.
The incident, which took place on Friday, November 23, 2024, has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about the dangers of unconventional practices within the herbalist community.
According to the Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory, the alarming incident was reported by a concerned individual, Shandam Michael, who witnessed the shocking event unfold. SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, provided details of the incident, stating, “In a misguided attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun.”
The police swiftly responded to the distress call, finding Usman in critical condition. He was promptly transported to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further care. “Unfortunately, the charm failed to protect him, resulting in life-threatening injuries,” Adeh added.
In the wake of this incident, law enforcement conducted a thorough search of Usman’s residence, uncovering a homemade gun and a variety of charms associated with his reckless experiment. The ongoing investigation has led to the anticipation of serious legal repercussions for Usman. He is expected to face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
