The Board and Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) have provided clarity on the operational status of the Old Port Harcourt Refinery.
The facility is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans underway to scale up to 90%.
Daily production outputs from the refinery include 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol) derived from Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha), 900,000 liters of kerosene, 1.5 million liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO or diesel), and 2.1 million liters of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO). Additionally, the refinery produces supplemental volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
To ensure compliance with fuel specifications, the refinery incorporates crack C5—a blending component sourced from Indorama Petrochemicals, previously known as Eleme Petrochemicals. According to NNPC Ltd, blending is a standard practice in refineries worldwide.
“No single unit can produce gasoline that fully complies with any country’s standards without such processes,” the management explained.
The company emphasized its commitment to enhancing the refinery’s efficiency, contributing to energy security, and reducing dependence on fuel imports.
