A devastating boat accident in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West, Delta State, has resulted in the deaths of more than 30 passengers, including a one-year-old child.
The tragic incident occurred when a speedboat, returning from a burial ceremony, collided with a submerged log, causing it to capsize.
Eyewitnesses reported that the boat was traveling at high speed when it struck the log, throwing passengers into the river. Many of those on board, who were not wearing life jackets and could not swim, struggled to stay afloat. The scene was described as harrowing, with passengers desperately attempting to survive in the water.
Rescue operations are ongoing, though hopes of finding more survivors are fading as many remain missing. Tragically, the lifeless body of the one-year-old child was later found floating along the creek.
