The accident occurred as the tanker, reportedly loaded with goods, lost control and toppled over, pinning the Toyota Camry, with registration number LSR 293 HJ, under its weight.
A video obtained by News Reporters captured the tense moments when onlookers sprang into action, working together to pull the driver from the wreckage.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the unidentified driver trapped under the heavy container, yet miraculously, he emerged from the ordeal in shock but without serious injuries.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LRU), quickly arrived at the scene.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the vehicle was carefully removed from beneath the container, and the driver was rushed to a hospital for immediate medical care. Security personnel from the Kirikiri Police Division ensured that the rescue operation proceeded without further incident.
Following the accident, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the urgent need for trucking companies to secure containers properly to prevent similar catastrophes. He urged strict compliance with safety regulations to protect lives and property on Lagos roadways.
“LASTMA remains committed to safeguarding the public and ensuring safe, efficient traffic flow on all Lagos roads,” Taofiq added, noting that LASTMA officers would continue managing the site to ease traffic congestion and restore order.
