The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a warehouse in Oke-Afa, Okota, Lagos, filled with unregistered and expired supermarket items.
Acting on reliable intelligence, NAFDAC Investigation & Enforcement Directorate carried out a raid, catching operators in the act of unloading a 20ft container packed with unregistered carbonated drinks.
Upon further inspection, officials discovered more than 14 rooms packed with unregistered and expired goods. Some of these products had been contaminated by rats, highlighting the poor storage conditions of the facility.
The warehouse has been immediately placed under suspension, with all operations halted pending further investigation. NAFDAC has called on the management to provide sourcing evidence, including the Global Listing for Supermarket Items (GLSI) certificate, to verify the legitimacy of the products.
As the festive season approaches, NAFDAC has issued a stern warning about the dangers of unregulated products, urging consumers to remain vigilant and verify product sources.
“This operation underscores the Agency’s commitment to protecting public health and enforcing regulatory standards,” the agency emphasized, encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest office.
