Zara Bibi, a 30-year-old woman in her seventh month of pregnancy, was brutally murdered and dismembered in Daska, Pakistan.
The crime, rooted in accusations of witchcraft, has left many reeling as details emerge about the chilling motives behind this violent act.
Her mother-in-law, Sughran Bibi, has confessed to the grisly crime, alleging that Zara had used “witchcraft” to seduce her son, Qadir Ahmed. Senior police officer Omar Farooq provided insight into the confession, stating, “In her confessional statement, Sughran Bibi said that she suspected Zara of allegedly practising ‘witchcraft.'”
The situation escalated when Qadir began sending money directly to Zara’s bank account rather than to his mother, further fueling Sughran’s suspicions. “The four suspects smothered Zara with a pillow while she was asleep. After that, they burnt her face and chopped off her body into dozens of pieces before dumping it in a drain in three sacks,” Farooq recounted, detailing the heinous actions taken against the pregnant woman.
Zara had been married to Qadir for four years and was the mother of a three-year-old boy. Originally from Saudi Arabia, she had returned to Pakistan just two weeks prior to her disappearance. Her father, Shabbir Ahmed, expressed his distress, noting that he had not heard from her since November 10. “Her in-laws claimed she ‘left the house with jewellery and valuables,'” he revealed, leading to his decision to report her missing.
The investigation took a grim turn when police discovered Zara’s dismembered body parts in three separate bags. Following this discovery, authorities arrested Sughran Bibi, her daughter Yasmin, grandson Hamza, and a relative named Navid.
A fourth suspect, Abdullah, has also been taken into custody. All suspects have confessed to their roles in the murder, and a case has been registered against them.
