Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended a man suspected of vote-buying during the Ondo governorship election.
The suspect was caught in possession of two large bags filled with cash, which authorities suspect were intended to influence voters.
The arrest took place around 9 a.m. at Ward 4, Polling Unit 007, located outside St. Stephen’s Primary School in Akure. DSS agents, acting on intelligence, monitored the suspect’s movements before capturing him as he attempted to distribute the funds.
A video capturing the arrest has gone viral, showing DSS officers seizing the bags of money as onlookers reacted with surprise and concern. Election observers and party agents were present as DSS agents swiftly moved in, taking control of the area to prevent any disruption or further inducement attempts.
The DSS has pledged to uphold the integrity of the election process, assuring the public that any further attempts at voter manipulation will be met with a strong response.
